  1. CRAFT AI
  2. AI builder on a server

Can an AI build for you on a Minecraft multiplayer server?

Yes, in beta. CRAFT AI, the Minecraft mod, runs only on your own computer and nothing is installed on the server: it builds by sending /fill and /setblock commands under your own permissions, so it builds only where the server already lets you do that. It has not been tried on a real dedicated server yet.

How does CRAFT AI work on a server?

Everything runs on your computer: Minecraft, the mod and your own Claude Code. Nothing is installed on the server, and no port is opened on it.

The mod reads the world as your game knows it, and writes by sending /fill and /setblock commands as you. Data such as the contents of a chest or the text of a sign goes with the block.

Nothing is bypassed. If the server does not let you build with those commands, the mod does not build.

What the mod says when the server refuses

This server does not let you build with commands (/setblock, /fill), so CRAFT AI cannot build here. Ask an operator for the permission, or build in a world where you can.

Which permissions do I need?

You need the right to use /setblock and /fill: operator, or whatever permission the server gives you for those commands.

The mod looks at your operator level first. If that is not enough, it sends a test command that changes nothing. If the server does not accept the command from you, the mod tells you and places nothing.

How fast does it build on a server?

A vanilla server counts the commands each player sends and disconnects a player who sends too many, unless that player is an operator. CRAFT AI stays under that line.

So an operator builds fast, and any other player goes at about one command a second after a short burst: a big build takes longer.

What is different from a singleplayer world?

WhatIn a singleplayer worldOn a multiplayer server
SpeedImmediate.Fast for an operator; about one command a second for other players.
Choosing an areaThe wand (/zone wand), or /zone.No wand, because a server does not have the mod’s item: look at a block and type /zone 1, then look at another and type /zone 2.
UndoThe blocks and their contents. The blocks. The contents of chests are not restored.
Finding placesThe AI can use the game’s own locate. No locate: it needs the game’s server. The map of the area and the log of places still work.
Where it can buildIn the chunks the mod loads.Only in the chunks your client knows about: an area that is not loaded is refused with a message.
Commands the AI runsYours: in your own world the AI acts as your operator.Yours, with your rights: no /stop, /op or /ban without the right to use them.

What has been tried, and what has not?

The tests run the real game with its own server playing the part of a remote one, so the client treats it as a server. They check:

  • The list of tools, without locate.
  • A /fill reaches the server, and the server’s answer does not fill your chat.
  • Undo of the blocks.
  • A whole house, with walls, a door, windows, fences, a chest with its contents, a roof and a glass sphere, identical block for block to the same house built in singleplayer.
  • A zone chosen by looking at two blocks, with nothing built outside it.
  • A world where the player may not build: the player is told, nothing is placed, and the chat does not receive the server’s complaints.

Not tried: a real dedicated server; plugins such as Paper or WorldGuard that limit /fill or rename commands; the real speed over the Internet; a server whose spam threshold is not the vanilla one.

Should I ask the server’s staff first?

Yes. Whether a building tool is welcome on a server is for its staff to say. CRAFT AI only does what your own permissions let your commands do, and it does it as you.

A large build is a lot of commands from one player: ask first, and start with a small request.

How do I start on a server?

  1. Install CRAFT AI on your own computer, as for a singleplayer world (step by step).
  2. Join the server. The mod tells you that it works there, and under which permissions.
  3. Look at the spot, press K and describe what you want.
  4. For an area, look at a block and type /zone 1, then look at another and type /zone 2.

Frequently asked questions

Does the server need CRAFT AI?

No. CRAFT AI is client side: nothing is installed on the server. To the server, a build is a series of commands that you sent.

Do I need to be an operator?

Not necessarily. You need the right to use /fill and /setblock. Operators build fast; other players are held by the server to about one command a second.

Can I undo a build on a server?

Yes, for the blocks. The contents of chests are not restored on a server, which differs from a singleplayer world.

Is multiplayer finished?

No, it is in beta. It has not been tried on a real dedicated server yet.
